Now let’s put what you learned about Venn to Text Statements Questions into practice!
This venn diagrams shows the number of friends of 3 people running for school council. Which of the following must be true?
Andrea has 10+B friends whilst Boris and Dominic each have 7+A+B friends so will have fewer friends if A is 2 or fewer.
The following diagram displays the number of flowers in the gardens of 100 citizens in Berkshire. Every home has at least one flower.
Gardens with Roses
= 9 + X + Y + 6 + 8 + 3
= 26 + X + Y
Gardens with Tulips
= 2 + 3 + 6 + 8 + X + Y
= 19 + X + Y
The second easiest to rule out is B because we just have to add up the numbers that are not in overlapping regions. Adding up 4 + 3 + 7 + 6 = 20 – B is false.
Looking at these statements, the easiest to rule out is C because we just have to check if there is a region that has all four circles overlapping or not. There is no such region, so zero gardens have all four flowers – C is false.
Gardens with Daffodils
= 4 + 2 + 9 + X
= 15 + X

C is also correct because the calculation of gardens with all 4 flowers is exactly zero.
This diagram shows information on a group’s favourite topping on pancakes.
The values for each are as follows:
Chocolate – 7+x+y, Banana – 11+x, Strawberry – 12+y.
This means that if x is two greater than y then banana will be more popular than strawberry.
E.g. for x = 3 and y = 1, banana = 14 and strawberry = 13.

If x is two bigger than y means that, X could be 2 and banana 1. But the example given says 3 for X and 1 for y. This would be three times bigger, not 2.

If x=2 and y=1 then they are equal thus not filling the requirement of the answer
A group of applicants for interpreting jobs at a Czech company were asked to list which foreign languages they had a working proficiency in. The four most common were French, German, Spanish, and English.
French is represented by the rhombus.
Spanish is represented by the triangle.
German is represented by the oval.
English is represented by the rectangle.
The correct answer is B.
The total number of English speakers is 42.
Five sixths of this number would be 5/6 x 42 = 35 people.
Within the rectangle for English, we can see that 6 people do not speak another language.
Therefore, 36 people who speak English also speak another language, and option B is correct.

Where are the explanations!?
Fri, 11 Sep 2020 22:21:10
I now know that b is correct, because the total speakers of English are 42, and 42x 5/6 is 36 which is 42 minus the number of English-only speakers which is 6

(i guessed this one at first tho)

How is B right? The total is 42 and multiplied by 5/6 = 35 and then 42-35 = 7 not 6. Shouldn't the right answer be D?
QG magazine did a survey of their readers to assess their knowledge of Black-Tie attire brands. They asked if individuals were aware of four brands:
A group of medical students are asked which of the following specialties they had considered.

This is what I think; I might be wrong though so feel free to correct me. A is correct because it has 48 kids in comparison to the other ones which have less (i honestly just guessed because it had 16). B is correct because 48-16(only musical) = 32 and 32/48 is two thirds C is correct because 23 kids satisfy being sporty and artistic among other qualities and this is more than 84(total number of kids)/4 This leaves only D to be incorrect therefore the right answer :)
The answer is B. X is within the circle and therefore must earn over £100k. This means that they cannot have the income of £25,000 so this is the statement which is not true for X. Initially C might be tempting. However, the statement states that do not have a policymaker role so this is true for X.
C is the answer. Whilst there is overlap between qualified doctors and qualified dentists, J is not in the overlap. He is therefore not a qualified dentist and so is not doubly qualified.
The answer is C. “Long-term basis” is a synonym for the permanent role and “location of preference” maps to desired location. Job B is in an overlap of these two criteria and therefore this is true.
Mary has categorised her recipes. Included in this is her Challah recipe (C).
D is the answer. Challah is in the overlap between all four of the shapes. Therefore, it does need an oven to be cooked and also needs yeast. It is Jewish so cannot be Arabic nor not a Jewish type of bread. It is oven-cooked rather than fried.

i selected the correct answer but it still came up wrong

I have the same problem as Tinashe
Thu, 04 Mar 2021 05:31:50
This is still a problem
The answer is A. It is an electric car. However, it is priced less than £45,000 rather than less than £40,000. This might raise questions about option D. However, option D offers a threshold greater than that in the key. If it is less than £45,000 then it is by definition less than £50,000.
