The University of Queensland provides a postgraduate- entry programme.  All teaching is delivered at The University of Queensland and includes wide clinical experience at teaching hospitals and general practice. The course is clinically focussed and aims to equip students with skills in critical thinking and reasoning. The comprehensive medical curriculum takes a patient centred approach using integrated learning and a teaching approach that incorporates lectures, tutorials, lab work. Work placements, seminars, workshops, work placements and Peer Assisted Study Sessions.

Selection

Graduate Entry: The entry requirements at The University of Queensland are set the reflect the high academic content and popularity of the study programme. The admissions process involves ranking students based upon their GAMSAT/MCAT and GPA. Selection of students then considers these two factors alongside performance in the interview.

Provisional Entry: Students in Year 12 wishing to apply to the University of Queensland must complete their first bachelor’s degree in Queensland achieving overall grade points of 5-7. Students are interviewed based on their performance in ISAT/UCAT. The student selection process then uses the interview score, ATAR and ISAT/UCAT score.

Clinical Placements and work experience

Studying medicine at the University of Queensland allows students to spend time gaining experience in caring for patients in the community and hospitals. Progression through the course allows students to increase their contribution to patient care. During their fourth year of studies students will become fully integrated into the health care team preparing them for the next stage in their career.

The first year of study ends with a 4-week observership programme.

Years 3 and 4 of the degree are based around rotations in clinical units. Teaching and research is supported by 3800 academic title holders. There are 11 clinical units which students get the opportunity to work in. For domestic students they are exposed to both metropolitan and rural units, international students will be based in metropolitan Units. Clinical Units include: Children’s Health Queensland, Ipswich, Northside and Royal Brisbane.
